On April 30, an attempted coup in Venezuela, reportedly backed by factions aligned with U.S. interests, failed to gain traction. The effort, led by opposition figures, was quickly neutralized, with President Nicolás Maduro retaining the support of key segments of the military and a portion of the population loyal to the Bolivarian project.
The Maduro government, which has faced ongoing economic challenges and international criticism, continues to frame such actions as foreign interference aimed at undermining Venezuelan sovereignty. Supporters argue that the Bolivarian process has helped lift millions out of poverty and reduce U.S. influence in the region.
In New York City, demonstrators gathered in response to the attempted coup, chanting slogans such as 'Hands Off Venezuela!' and expressing solidarity with broader social justice movements, including Black Lives Matter.
